Cattana Wetlands, Barron Falls Day Trip + Skyrail or Scenic Railway

Set off on an exciting guided exploration from Cairns. This journey includes visits to the Cattana Wetlands and the picturesque Barron Falls, alongside a ride on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, traversing the depths of a World Heritage-listed rainforest, or alternatively, take a ride on the Scenic Railway train.

Activity Details

On the scheduled day of your adventure, we will collect you from your accommodation in Cairns at the prearranged time, launching us into this unforgettable experience.

Our journey commences at the Cattana Wetlands, where a guided tour will reveal the wonders of a feather palm forest. We will wander through this distinctive habitat, absorbing the serene atmosphere while we walk past the tranquil Jabiru Lake and learn about the distinctive plant species and wildlife residing in this ecosystem.

Subsequently, we’ll proceed to the awe-inspiring Barron Falls, also known as Din Din. This impressive waterfall is deeply revered by the Djabugay Aboriginal People. Here, a Djabugay cultural guide will share insights into the spiritual and historical significance of these falls within their community.

It will then be time to enjoy lunch! We’ll head to Skybury, recognized as Australia’s oldest coffee plantation and the largest producer of papayas. While there, we shall indulge in a delightful lunch crafted with Skybury's signature ingredients, featuring coffee and papaya. After the meal, we’ll take in the breathtaking vistas of the Tablelands while sipping on locally harvested coffee!

Following lunch, we'll traverse the rich agricultural landscapes of the Tablelands to reach the Emerald Creek Ice Creamery, where we will delight in a tasting of four distinct ice cream flavors produced on-site.

Next, based on your preference, you can experience either the Skyrail Rainforest cable car or the Scenic Railway train. If you opt for the cable car, we’ll glide from Kuranda, soaring over the UNESCO World Heritage rainforest. The experience is remarkable! We’ll also have the opportunity to enjoy stunning panoramic views of Barron Falls from The Edge viewpoint and gather intriguing information at the Rainforest Interpretation Centre. If you select the Scenic Railway, you’ll journey along one of the most picturesque train routes globally, navigating through hand-carved tunnels and across stunning bridges that span majestic gorges.

In conclusion, we’ll return to our bus at Skyrail’s Smithfield terminal to initiate our homeward journey. After approximately 10 hours, we will arrive back in Cairns. Until next time!
