Tour Overview

After picking you up from your accommodation, we will journey to the Coptic district of Cairo. Here, you will gain insights into the development of Christianity in Egypt and understand the distinctions between Coptic Catholic and Coptic Orthodox beliefs. Both faiths have their own respective churches, which we will have the opportunity to explore during our visit.

Our first stop will be the church of Saint Maria the Virgin, commonly referred to as the Hanging Church of Cairo, built above the ancient gates of the Babylon fortress. Inside, you’ll discover a collection of artistic works and a variety of mosaics that reflect different periods in history.

Next, we will visit the Church of St. George, the Orthodox church, along with the church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus, where, according to legend, the holy family sought refuge during their escape from King Herod.

To deepen our understanding of Coptic heritage in Cairo, we will explore the Cairo Coptic Museum, which houses an extensive collection of religious and decorative artifacts.

Following our museum exploration, we will enjoy a lunch break at a traditional eatery in the Coptic district, where a variety of local dishes, including a meat and rice specialty, will be served.

Once we finish our meal, we will return to your hotel.
