Description

If you are enamored with the culture of the pharaohs, this Grand Egyptian Museum tour is an unmissable experience, complete with transportation from your hotel and entrance tickets. Uncover the narrative of one of Ancient Egypt's historic civilizations.

The Grand Egyptian Museum

As one of the premier attractions in the realm of pharaohs, the Grand Egyptian Museum is a place that captivates visitors.

Location

Situated on the outskirts of Cairo, merely 10 minutes away from the Pyramids of Giza and around half an hour from Sphinx Airport, the opulent Grand Egyptian Museum (often abbreviated as GEM) proudly holds the title of the largest museum globally dedicated to the legacy of Ancient Egypt.

With a sprawling area of 500,000 m² (1,640,419 ft²), this establishment is twice as expansive as the Louvre in Paris and 2.5 times larger than the British Museum in London.

Building History

The ambitious initiative to create this massive exhibition space commenced in the 1990s, though actual construction began in the early 2000s.

As of November 1, 2025, the museum opened all its rooms to the public, establishing itself as a top destination for those traveling to Egypt.

Exhibits Inside the Museum

Inside the museum, you will encounter:

  • 12 exhibition spaces
  • Over 50,000 artifacts from Ancient Egypt, with 20,000 displayed for the first time
  • The treasure chamber of Pharaoh Tutankhamun
  • The colossus of Ramses II
  • The solar boat from Cheops
  • A dedicated temporary exhibition hall
  • A children’s section
  • Additional facilities: including a conference center, library, auditorium, cinema, and educational workshop spaces

What to Expect on the Tour?

During your booking, you may select the option that offers just transport and admission to the Grand Egyptian Museum or a more comprehensive choice that includes a guided experience revealing the museum's many stories.

Tour Information

At the agreed time, we will pick you up from your accommodation in Cairo or Giza, proceeding towards the GEM in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle.

Upon arrival at this grand structure, notable for its architectural homage to the civilization of the Pharaohs, we will embark on a 2-hour guided exploration of the museum’s primary attractions.

After concluding the tour, we will return you to your hotel, with an expected arrival time between 3 and 4 hours post pick-up.

Sights During the Visit

Your guided journey through the Grand Egyptian Museum commences with a viewing of the hanging obelisk above a four-legged base. This remarkable column dedicated to Ramesses II stands outside the main entrance.

Following this impressive start, we will step inside through the Grand Hall, where a magnificent 12-meter (39 ft.) statue of Pharaoh Ramesses II awaits, alongside 10 statues of Senusret I, the King Merenpetah column, and numerous Ptolemaic artifacts.

In this captivating reception area, sunlight pours in through the glass ceiling, illuminating the renowned Grand Staircase. This staircase leads to the exhibition halls, showcasing an extraordinary collection of sculptures.

As we move along the monumental stairs, we will take in various sculptures of deities and pharaohs, including stone columns and sarcophagi. Each piece relates deeply to the journey toward eternity.

Within the permanent collection galleries, be sure to observe the complete treasure collection of Pharaoh Tutankhamun and the iconic solar boat of Cheops, among numerous other treasures from Ancient Egypt.

Additionally, a glass-enclosed area provides a stunning view of the Pyramids of Giza in the distance. The tour concludes in the shopping gallery, where you can find replicas of archaeological discoveries, cookbooks inspired by Ancient Egyptian cuisine, local crafts, and countless souvenirs.
