Description

Dating back to the 13th century, the Castillo de la Concepción has been a witness to the glory of this Mediterranean metropolis. This medieval stronghold defended the city under the reign of Alfonso X and stands as a hallmark of 18th-century Cartagena, cementing its status as a crucial element of the city's historical narrative.

As you make your way up in the panoramic lift, rising 45 meters, you'll be treated to a unique vantage point over Cartagena and its port, which holds significant strategic value for the Spanish Navy. The sweeping views from the summit of Concepción, where a temple to the god Aesculapius once stood during Roman times, are truly unparalleled. From within the glass cabin, you can observe major sites such as the Roman amphitheatre, the bullring, and the Hospital de Marina.

Upon reaching the summit, you will enter the fortress, home to the Interpretation Centre. Here, you will delve into the historical significance of the Castillo de la Concepción, along with a glimpse of ancient cisterns, capitals, and various architectural relics that are well-preserved.

Panoramic Lift Ticket

If you prefer not to explore the castle's interior or the Interpretation Centre, you may opt for just a ticket to use the panoramic lift, ascending to the viewpoint to take in the breathtaking sights of Cartagena, the port, and the city's prominent landmarks. Access to the lift is via Gisbert Street.

Los Viajes de Leonardo Exhibition

Until October 5, the castle features the temporary exhibition Los Viajes de Leonardo. This exhibition showcases over one hundred inventions and paintings replicas, offering insights into the brilliance of Da Vinci, from picturesque vineyards to the grandeur of Florence and the breathtaking charm of Milan.

It is important to note that until October 5, there will be a single admission price applicable to all visitors.

Opening Times

The Castle of Concepción welcomes visitors during the following hours:

• July 1 to September 15: Open daily from 10 am to 8 pm
• March 15 to June 30/September 16 to November 1: Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 7 pm
• November 2 to March 14: Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 5:30 pm
• December 24, 31, and January 5: Open only from 10 am to 2 pm

Please be advised that the last entry is one hour prior to closing.

Reduced Ticket

Discounted rates are available for students under 25, young individuals with a youth card, unemployed persons, retirees, disabled individuals, and large families, provided they present appropriate identification.
