Charleston Private Historical Tour
This stunning town boasts a captivating history along with a variety of notable sites. Your journey begins with a convenient pickup at your accommodation, leading us straight to the vibrant downtown, where our exploration of the scenic waterfront will commence.
Our first destination will be The Battery, a significant historical site that attracts many visitors. Initially built as a seawall for defense, this structure was vital for the city’s safeguarding during the Civil War. Today, it's transformed into a charming walkway adorned with classic antebellum homes set against beautiful gardens, exemplifying the essence of the Southern landscape. We will leisurely walk along the promenade, immersing ourselves in the elegance of these 18th-century residences and enjoying breathtaking views of the waterfront.
Next, we will proceed to White Point Park, a serene area showcasing several Civil War memorials, making it a favorite destination for locals seeking tranquility amid its lush gardens and natural surroundings. Following this, our path takes us to the Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon. Finished in 1771 and serving numerous purposes throughout its history, this site is among the few remaining locations where the U.S. Constitution was ratified in 1788.
Continuing along our historic journey, we will visit Marion Square, a park that dates back to the 18th century. Today, it serves as the main hub for various events and festivals celebrated throughout the year. Our route will also take us through King Street, originally the principal thoroughfare of the city, which has since evolved into an upscale shopping district featuring designer boutiques.
As we delve into the more colorful aspects of Charleston's past, we will wander down Rainbow Row, a delightful street along the Cooper River adorned with 13 vividly painted houses, each embodying the historic charm distinctive to this city. Additionally, we will visit the Waterfront Park Pier, situated near the Cooper River and boasting several historical monuments.
Our final stop will take us to Old Mount Pleasant, particularly the Old Village. Overlooking the Charleston Harbor, this area offers a true taste of Southern culture, characterized by inviting homes, old oaks draped in moss, and striking views of the waterfront.
As this enriching 3-hour journey through Charleston's historic treasures concludes, we will return you to your hotel, leaving you with memorable insights into this fascinating city.
