Embark on a free walking tour of Cholula, where you will be immersed in the enchanting atmosphere of one of the most ancient cities in the Americas. Stroll through a landscape dotted with Baroque churches, historic pyramids, and breathtaking vistas, uncovering the harmonious blend of pre-Hispanic culture and Colonial history.

Tour Overview

Our meeting point will be in front of the Biblioteca Vicente T. Mendoza, where we will commence this exciting free walking tour of Cholula. Here, you’ll step into a vibrant town rich in history, spirituality, and tradition. Let’s begin our adventure!

We will first visit the Parroquia de San Pedro Apóstol, renowned for its towering spire, the highest in the city, as well as its compelling Churrigueresque-style dome. As you explore its vicinity, you’ll witness the prominent influence of barroco poblano on the local religious landscape.

Next, we will make our way to the impressive Capilla Real de Naturales, a remarkable architectural wonder in Latin America. With its 49 domes and Moorish-inspired design, it stands as a testament to the cultural synthesis that characterizes Cholula.

Continuing on, we will arrive at the San Gabriel Franciscan Convent, which is among the earliest Franciscan establishments in Mexico. Built atop a temple dedicated to the god Quetzalcóatl, this site reflects the amalgamation of Indigenous spirituality and Spanish missionary efforts. Our next stop will be the Plaza de la Concordia, a central hub where the vibrancy of everyday life meets rich pre-Hispanic legacy.

Just a few steps further, we’ll visit the Museo de Sitio de Cholula, where you can observe an array of archaeological treasures, including pottery, sculptures, and a model showcasing the Great Pyramid of Cholula. Additionally, we will explore the Regional Museum of Cholula, where artifacts like alebrijes narrate the story of Cholula’s transformation from its geological beginnings to the present day.

After our historical journey, we'll pause at the Parque Intermunicipal San Andrés, a serene natural area that offers stunning views of the Great Pyramid of Cholula, crowned by the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios. You’ll want to capture the moment with photographs!

Finally, we will make our way to the outer area of the Archaeological Site of Cholula. Here lies the monumental pyramid with the largest base worldwide, where you’ll learn about the enigmatic pre-Hispanic temple dedicated to Quetzalcóatl and how indigenous traditions coexist alongside Catholic practices.

After approximately 1.5 hours of exploration, we will conclude our tour at the base of this magnificent pyramid, soaking in the stunning views of the Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl volcanoes.
