Description

In the Middle Ages, Cluny Abbey stood as the largest church globally. Explore its remarkable architectural and cultural heritage by securing your ticket.

Ticket Information

Visitors arriving in this picturesque region of Burgundy were often mesmerized by the grand sight of the magnificent Cluny Abbey. The imposing structure attracted not only the devout but also those simply wishing to admire its scale. At one time, this Benedictine monastery was recognized as the largest Christian church worldwide, until the construction of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome took that title.

The evolution of Art in Europe is intertwined with Cluny Abbey, whose Romanesque style served as a blueprint for numerous similar establishments across the continent. With this ticket, you will gain access to the remnants of the ancient abbey, which has origins tracing back to 909 AD.

As you stroll through the renowned cloister of Cluny and other sections of the abbey, you will discover how the Benedictine monks lived their faith and how their way of life influenced various religious orders that flourished throughout medieval Europe.

Within this designated European Heritage site, visitors can also find the former elegant campus of the prestigious Arts et Métiers ParisTech University.
