Comillas Free Walking Tour
Description
Join us on this complimentary walking tour of Comillas, where we will explore the enchanting village often referred to as the 'village of the archbishops'—a true gem in Cantabria.
Tour Overview
We will convene at the designated hour at the Fuente de los Tres Caños (Fountain of the Three Spouts) located in Plaza Joaquín del Piélago, marking the commencement of our exploration of Comillas.
The adventure begins as we capture the impressive architecture of notable sites such as the New Town Hall, Ocejo House, La Portilla, and Las Cavaducas. We will also view the magnificent Sobrellano Palace and Gaudi's iconic Capricho from the streets below. Have you ever wondered why its façade is adorned with so many sunflowers? What musical tales lie behind this remarkable structure? Let us uncover these secrets!
Next, our journey leads us to the Pontifical University, where we’ll delve into the intriguing lesser-known aspects of its façade. As we proceed, we will encounter the Modernist Residence, the Cemetery, the significant Statue of the Marquis of Comillas, the resplendent House of the Duke of Almodóvar del Río, the Espolón Cultural Center, explore Corro San Pedro, admire the San Cristóbal Church, and wander through the Old Town Hall.
We will also glimpse a historical residence where King Afonso XII once stayed. Fascinatingly, Comillas held the title of Spain’s capital for a day in its storied past! Additionally, we will encounter an unusual sculpture that had to be moved, as its original location was unsuitable.
Throughout our exploration, we will discuss the intriguing connections between Comillas and the film industry. The ties between this picturesque Cantabrian town and cinema are quite notable. Finally, we will wrap up our approximately 1.5-hour journey back in the heart of Comillas.
