Amalienborg Palace Guided Tour
Description
Explore Amalienborg, the Copenhagen palace complex that has served as the residence of the Danish royal family since the 19th century. Admire the extravagant interiors of Christian VII's Palace while discovering the history of one of Europe's most significant monarchies.
Amalienborg Palace Guided Tour Itinerary
At the designated time, meet your guide at the main entrance to Amalienborg. This historic palace complex, situated on the waterfront in Copenhagen, is the home of the current Danish monarchs, making it a key landmark in the city.
The first segment of your guided tour will introduce the octagonal courtyard that encompasses the four mansions forming the palace. As your expert guide unveils the history and secrets of the surrounding buildings, take in the views of the elegant square, including the equestrian statue of Amalienborg's founder, King Frederick V, at its center, the Rococo-style Frederik's Church to the west, and the contemporary Copenhagen Opera House to the east.
Amalienborg was originally constructed in the 18th century to accommodate the families of Danish nobility; however, following a fire that destroyed the royal residence at Christiansborg Palace in 1794, the monarchs purchased the complex, establishing it as their official residence.
Inside one of the palace buildings, you will visit the Amalienborg Museum. Here, a reconstruction of the offices and private rooms of the Danish royals offers insight into the history and traditions of a family regarded as the "in-laws of Europe's monarchs". In Christian VII's Palace, you will also explore the magnificent Pompeian Chamber, Queen Louise’s salon , and the Throne Chamber.
After approximately 1 to 1.5 hours, the tour will conclude.
