Description

While in northern France, take the opportunity to obtain your admission to the impressive Coucy Castle, an exceptional journey through the rich tapestry of French history and culture set within the scenic Picardy region!

Why explore Coucy Castle?

Situated within the charming Picardy area, Coucy Castle is recognized as one of the most significant fortifications in the northern part of France.

With your entry to Coucy Castle, you will have access to the remains of this exquisite fortress established in the 13th century. The structure was commissioned by Enguerrand III de Boves, the Lord of Coucy, with two main objectives: the protection of his territory and a demonstration of his power.

Although it was dismantled in 1652, the site was utilized as a quarry until being acquired by the French State in 1848. Subsequently, several architects, including Viollet-le-Duc, engaged in restoring its ruins. However, during World War I, several towers, including the keep, suffered destruction at the hands of the German forces.

Despite being partially ruined, many parts of Coucy Castle continue to stand today. Your admission permits you to wander along the historic walls, revealing a substantial portion of the original structure.

As you traverse the site, your exploration will introduce you to the vestiges of the castle's former chapel and other architectural features that offer a glimpse into the magnificence and scale of this remarkable fortress.
