World War II Tour of Krakow
Description
Embark on a journey through time to explore the pivotal historical landmarks of this Polish city as you partake in the World War II Tour of Krakow. Gain insights into the realities of life during this somber chapter of history.
Description
Your experience will commence at St. Mary's Basilica, located in the heart of Krakow, where we will convene at the scheduled time to initiate our historical exploration of World War II.
What were the events surrounding the Nazi occupation of Krakow? What transpired within the city throughout the Second World War? How did the local population endure these challenging times? Join us as we unravel these historical questions while visiting the city’s key monuments.
As we traverse Florianska Street, we will arrive at Market Square, an area rich in history that witnessed both jubilations and tragic events, including public executions. Its significance was marked by its renaming in honor of Adolf Hitler during the occupation.
Our tour will take us to various notable sites from the era of Nazi rule, including the headquarters of the Ordnungspolizei. Additionally, we'll explore locations tied to the Armia Krajowa, the Polish resistance against the Nazis.
Next, we will proceed to the Collegium Novum, where our guide will share one of the most harrowing tales from Krakow's World War II history. During our journey, we will also make a stop at a former Gestapo prison and gaze upon the Katyn Cross, a poignant tribute to the suffering experienced by the Polish populace.
Our World War II tour of Krakow will conclude at the Grunwald Monument, approximately two hours after our initial gathering.
