Cuenca Free Tour
Description
Experience the charm of colonial architecture and vibrant streets on this complimentary exploration of Cuenca, a stunning gem in the Ecuadorian Andes. It promises to be an enjoyable venture!
Tour Overview
Our adventure kicks off at the agreed-upon time at the Mariscal Sucre Tourist Office, conveniently located opposite the Parque Calderón.
From this central meeting point, our first stop will be the Sagrario Church, often referred to as the Old Cathedral of Cuenca. Visitors interested in sacred art may explore the museum inside. Facing this church is the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, also known as the New Cathedral. We will traverse its main aisle, and those keen on panoramic views can independently ascend to its dome viewpoint.
As we move forward through Parque Calderón, we'll catch a glimpse of the Provincial Court of Justice from the exterior. Following this, we’ll stroll past Cuenca City Hall and the beautiful Basilica of San Alfonso. Our itinerary includes a visit to the cloister of the Seminary of San Luis, which previously served as the Catholic University's headquarters.
Next, we will take a break at a cozy local bar for a delightful sampling of Ecuadorian cheeses. After this culinary interlude, our tour will continue through Plaza de las Flores and Plaza de San Francisco. We'll wander into the enchanting streets of the historic area, noting renowned colonial-style hotels such as Casa Montalvo and Casa Blanca. Those inclined can visit the viewpoint atop Casa Blanca, offering expansive views of the area.
We’ll then proceed to the Paccari Chocolate Shop, where you can indulge in tastings of local coffee and chocolate, a delightful treat for your palate.
As our journey nears its conclusion, we will visit the notable Toquilla Straw Hat Museum. After approximately 4.5 hours, this complimentary exploration of Cuenca will come to an end at the intersection of Calle Benigno Malo and Calle Larga. We will bid farewell at a local bar, where you can enjoy a taste of authentic Ecuadorian beer at your leisure. A fitting conclusion to the experience!
