Andean Bread Baby Cooking Workshop & Guinea Pig Tombola

After collecting you from your accommodation in Cusco at the arranged time, we will embark on a scenic 40-minute journey to the village of Tipón.

Upon arrival, we will initiate our Andean bread baby cooking workshop. This session will delve into the fascinating history surrounding these distinctive bread creations, which have been celebrated traditions in Cusco since the days of the Inca Empire.

Traditionally, these bread babies are enjoyed at the onset of November, coinciding with All Saints' Day. Their unique shapes are deeply intertwined with Catholic customs. Throughout our workshop, we will uncover the intriguing stories and additional tidbits related to this culinary art.

Following an introduction to the historical background of the bread baby-making tradition, you will have the opportunity to craft your very own traditional treat. Let’s get ready to knead!

We will begin by softening the dough, shaping it against a wooden surface to resemble a baby. Decorating will follow, using sprinkles and sesame seeds before placing it into the wood-fired oven.

While waiting for the bread babies to bake for 15 minutes, we will engage in a traditional Cusquenian game, known as guinea pig tombola, or "tómbola de cuy" in the local dialect. The setup involves several boxes arranged in a circle with a guinea pig in the center. The game's objective is for participants to claim the box where the guinea pig chooses to venture.

Once the fun game concludes, we'll retrieve our Andean bread babies from the oven. You can take your delicious creation with you to savor later.

Finally, we will transport you back to your hotel in Cusco, concluding this enjoyable 3-hour experience.
