Hiking the Inca Trail & Sun Gate
Description
Set out on a remarkable one-day journey along the Inca Trail and witness one of the Seven Wonders of the World as you explore the renowned Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, crossing through the stunning Sun Gate.
Hike Overview
At the scheduled time, a pickup from your hotel in Cuzco will signal the start of an extraordinary adventure in Peru. Are you ready to take on the Inca Trail?
The trip to the Ollantaytambo train station takes around 1.5 hours, where you’ll have an opportunity for a delightful breakfast if desired.
Subsequently, we will board the train to kilometer 104, the starting point of the Inca Trail. During this 1-hour train journey, enjoy the mesmerizing views along the sacred Vilcanota River.
Upon arrival, we will walk across a bridge spanning the Urubamba River to complete passport control. Once everything is set, we'll head towards Chachamamba, a fascinating archaeological site featuring various ceremonial channels and water sources. After a brief historical overview, we will ascend toward Wiñaywayna, an impressive Incan site known for its agricultural terraces, religious sector, and urban area. This segment of the hike will take approximately 3.5 hours.
Post-tour, we’ll pause for a well-deserved and delicious lunch. Rejuvenated, we’ll continue hiking for another hour until we reach Inti Punku, the Sun Gate, where you’ll catch your first view of Machu Picchu.
After some time to capture stunning photographs, we’ll proceed for another 40 minutes to the mystical Incan citadel of Machu Picchu. You’ll have around 2.5 hours of free time to explore this world-renowned archaeological site at your leisure.
After this discovery, we’ll board a bus to Aguas Calientes, where you can have a meal before taking the train back to the Ollantaytambo station.
Upon your return to Cuzco, we will be ready to transport you back to your hotel, concluding this unforgettable day filled with exploration.
