Machu Picchu 4 Day Trek
Day 1: Cusco - Soqma - Korimarca
Gathering at your hotel in Cusco or the airport at 7 am signals the beginning of this remarkable trek to Machu Picchu along the Inca Quarry route.
The journey commences with a visit to the Ñaupa Church, a significant religious site featuring remarkable stone carvings. We then embark on a two-hour climb towards the village of Soqma, where a traditional lunch awaits to rejuvenate us.
Post-lunch, we will ascend towards the stunning Perolniyoc waterfalls, boasting a spectacular drop of 300 meters, before exploring the archaeological site of Rayanpata. Our first day concludes as we set up camp near the village of Korimarca, positioned at an altitude exceeding 3600 meters.
Day 2: Korimarca - Inti Punku - Choquetacarpo
On the second day, we begin with a hearty breakfast, energizing us for the trek through the towering peaks of the Sacred Valley. After a four-hour ascent, we reach the Charkahuaylla pass at 4450 meters, where we can pause for lunch while enjoying the sight of a nearby lagoon inhabited by native huallatas birds.
After our meal, we will continue towards the Buena Negra pass, which offers breathtaking views of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. A subsequent descent of one hour leads us to Inti Punku, the Sun Gate, with visibility of Mount Veronica. We will establish camp for the night in close proximity to Choquetacarpo.
Day 3: Choquetacarpo - Cachiccata - Aguas Calientes
The day kicks off with stunning vistas of the Sacred Valley's mountain ranges. Following breakfast, we begin a descent towards the Cachiccata quarries, where the Incas extracted porphyry, a mineral instrumental in their constructions, as well as a visit to an intriguing Inca cemetery containing chullpas.
After lunch in Cachiccata, we dive into the traditional cooking techniques behind pachamanca and cuy, quintessential dishes of Peru.
Continuing along the Inca quarry pathway, which dates back to pre-Columbian times, we'll observe the traditional dwellings in the Inca city of Ollantaytambo. From there, we will board a panoramic train to Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night in a hotel.
Day 4: Aguas Calientes - Cusco
Our final day begins with breakfast at the hotel, followed by a bus ride to the renowned Machu Picchu ruins. We’ll take a brief hike into the heart of the Incan citadel, allowing for approximately three hours of exploration among the temples, palaces, and stone altars. Optional hikes around Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain can also be arranged. Following this adventure, we will return to Aguas Calientes for lunch.
Afterwards, we will embark on the scenic Vistadome train, soaking in views as we journey back to Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival at the station, a bus will be ready to escort us back to Cusco, with an estimated arrival time of 7:30 pm.
