Machu Picchu Day Trip
Description
Machu Picchu is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, and an unmissable sight for anyone visiting Peru. On this day trip from Cusco, you'll discover its majesty and mystical power...
Machu Picchu Day Trip
Having picked you up from your hotel, we'll make our way to the train station, from where we'll proceed to Machu Picchu.
This train journey is one of the biggest surprises you'll encounter in Peru: the 112 kilometres (70 miles) will pass quickly as the glass-roofed train navigates through the breathtaking landscapes of rural Peru, featuring green-topped mountains, flowing rivers, and occasionally, llamas.
Upon arriving in Aguas Calientes, we will take a 25 to 30-minute bus ride to reach the highest point on the mountain, home to the Machu Picchu citadel. The first glimpse of this ancient Inca settlement is unforgettable.
In Machu Picchu, we will take a guided tour lasting 2.5 hours, allowing you to immerse yourself in the history, legends, and secrets of the Inca citadel. We'll wander through the narrow streets of the settlement, visit important sites like the House of the Guardian, and delve into the glory of the Inca empire.
With plenty of photos captured, we will take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes. You'll have between 2 and 5 hours of free time to enjoy lunch and admire the scenery before taking the train back. The exact duration of your free time will depend on our entry time to Machu Picchu and the return train schedule for that day.
Once back in Cusco, we will transport you back to your hotel by bus.
Panoramic Train
The excursion takes place on panoramic trains with large windows and a glass roof. Traveling on these trains gives you the sensation of flying. You can choose to travel in economy class (Expedition or Voyager train) or first class (Vistadome The 360º train).
Pickup Point
Pickup occurs at the specified time from hotels in the historic center of Cusco. If your accommodation isn’t centrally located, we'll meet you at the entrance of the Cathedral in Plaza de Armas.
We will confirm the exact pickup time, as it may vary depending on the availability of the trains.
Departure Stations & Duration
Trains to and from Cusco may operate from either Poroy station (30 minutes from Cusco) or Ollantaytambo station (1 hour and 30 minutes from Cusco), depending on availability. During the rainy season (December to March), the Poroy station is closed, and we will go to Ollantaytambo by bus. An email will be sent after booking confirmation that includes your specific hotel pickup time and the boarding station for your train.
The duration of transfers may vary based on the boarding station. The trip between Poroy and Aguas Calientes takes around 4 hours, while the journey from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes takes 1.5 hours.
