Moray Ruins & Maras Salt Mines Tour
Description
Historic salt mines that cling to the canyon sides and enigmatic circular Inca ruins: immerse yourself in the wonders of Peru's Sacred Valley with this excursion to Moray and Maras from Cusco.
Itinerary for the Moray Ruins & Maras Salt Mines Tour
After being collected from your accommodation at 8:20 am, you will depart from Cusco and venture deep into the Sacred Valley of the Incas, a region within the Andes known for a remarkable array of Incan archaeological treasures.
The tour will commence with a visit to Maras, a charming town embraced by breathtaking mountainous scenery, named after the local salineras, or salt pans. These salt works consist of evaporation ponds that have been producing salt since pre-Inca times. The unique color variations of the terraced pools create a visually stunning panorama, best admired from the nearby viewpoint.
Your journey continues to Moray, an area featuring an intriguing Inca archaeological site. Here, the circular agricultural terraces, or andenes, are believed to have been employed by the Incas to cultivate a variety of crops by creating distinct microclimates. You will have about an hour to explore and appreciate the rich history that surrounds these ruins.
Concluding this captivating tour of the Sacred Valley, you will return to Cusco's historic centre, arriving near Plaza de Armas at approximately 2:30 pm.
