Description

The Rainbow Mountain stands as one of Peru's breathtaking natural marvels. This trekking adventure will guide you to its peak while navigating through extraordinary landscapes and encountering llamas, alpacas, and vicuñas along the way. Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to explore the stunning Red Valley, a hidden treasure that promises to amaze.

Tour Overview

At the scheduled time, we will collect you from your accommodation or the designated meeting point in Cusco and embark on a 2-hour drive to the village of Cusipata. Here, we will pause to savor a traditional breakfast and prepare for our hike. Are you ready for an exhilarating experience?

After refueling, we will resume our journey for another 1.5 hours until reaching an altitude of 4,850 meters (15,912 feet). This marks the beginning of our trek to the iconic Rainbow Mountain. Spread across 3.5 kilometers (2.1 miles), the trail features both flat and inclined sections, but the rewards of reaching our goal will make it all worthwhile!

As we ascend, the vistas will captivate you. Our path will take us through areas where alpacas, llamas, and vicuñas graze, with the majestic Andes serving as a backdrop. Upon reaching the summit at 5,010 meters (16,437 feet), you will have some time to unwind and revel in the breathtaking spectacle of colors that the mountain exhibits—it feels like stepping into another world!

We will descend via the Red Valley, a less frequented route that provides stunning views reminiscent of Mars. If you prefer to skip this section of the trek, you may return the same path we ascended. Regardless of your choice, we will regroup at the bus station.

After returning to Cusipata, a delightful lunch will await us. Following the meal, we will journey back to Cusco, concluding our adventure at Plaza Regocijo after a full day lasting between 11 and 12 hours.

Pickup Information

During the reservation process, you can opt for the tour with hotel pickup or choose to meet at the designated meeting point.

If you select the pickup option, please be aware that it only covers hotels situated in the historic center of Cusco. For those staying outside this area, we will contact you post-booking to arrange a suitable meeting spot.

For the option with the meeting point, we will convene at Calle Espinar 142 in Cusco.

Important information

On the day of the activity, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco, or we'll meet at the indicated meeting point (C. Espinar 142, Cusco 08000, Peru) at the door of the Hotel Casa Andina at the indicated time. In any case, please be ready at reception 10 minutes beforehand.

If you select the tour with pickup, please note that it only includes pickup from hotels located in the historic centre of Cusco. If you're staying outside of this area, we'll get in touch with you after booking to arrange an alternative meeting point.

The entrance fee is not included and can only be paid in cash. We recommend bringing enough money to enjoy the tour:

Important Info

Please note that the activity takes place in a remote area, where breakfast and lunch will be based on basic local foods. Please bring additional snacks and water for the trek.
We recommend bringing cash for additional costs and wearing warm clothing such as a jumper, a jacket, a hat and gloves.
It's compulsory to wear sunglasses during the entire activity.
The activity will go ahead regardless of weather conditions.
The dirt road is not in the best condition.
The route may cause altitude sickness, so we recommend that you take personal medication or pills against altitude sickness.
This activity is not suitable for people over 60 years of age, pregnant people, or people with reduced mobility, heart or respiratory problems, or in poor physical condition. It's also not suitable for people who weigh more than 100 kg (220 lbs).
