Description

The Rainbow Mountain stands out as one of Peru's most breathtaking natural wonders. This trekking adventure promises to take you to its peak, traversing stunning natural landscapes while encountering llamas, alpacas, and vicuñas. Along the way, you'll uncover the breathtaking Red Valley, a hidden treasure that will truly mesmerize you.

Tour Overview

At the scheduled time, we will collect you from your accommodation in Cusco, embarking on a scenic 2-hour ride to the quaint village of Cusipata. This will be our first stop, where you can savor a traditional breakfast and prepare for the hiking experience ahead. Are you ready to immerse yourself in this adventure?

After we have recharged, we will board the vehicle once again and continue for 1.5 hours until we ascend to an impressive altitude of 4,850 metres (15,912 feet). Here, the adventure begins as we embark on our trek to the renowned Rainbow Mountain. The journey covers 3.5 kilometres (2.1 miles) consisting of both level paths and steep climbs, but the spectacular views will certainly justify every effort!

As we rise, the scenery will captivate you in every direction. We’ll find ourselves walking amongst herds of alpacas, llamas, and vicuñas, all while being surrounded by the majestic Andes. Upon reaching the summit at 5,010 metres (16,437 feet), you'll have the opportunity to take a break and appreciate the stunning array of colors displayed by the mountain—it feels like stepping into another realm!

Our descent will take us through the Red Valley, a path less traveled that presents extraordinary vistas reminiscent of Mars. Should you wish to skip this segment of the trail, you may return the way we arrived. Regardless of your choice, we will convene at the bus station to continue our journey.

Upon returning to Cusipata, a delightful lunch will await us. After enjoying our meal, we will head back to Cusco, concluding our day with farewells at Plaza Regocijo after a full-day experience lasting between 11 and 12 hours.

This tour includes pickup from hotels situated in downtown Cusco. If your accommodation is outside this area, we will contact you post-booking to coordinate a suitable meeting point.

Important information

On the day of the activity, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at the indicated time. Please be ready at reception 10 minutes beforehand.

Please remember that this activity only includes pickup from hotels located in the historic centre of Cusco. If you're staying outside of that area, the local team will get in touch with you to indicate an alternative meeting point.

Important Info

Please note that the activity takes place in a remote area, where breakfast and lunch will be based on basic local foods. Please bring additional snacks and water for the trek.
We recommend bringing cash for additional costs and wearing warm clothing such as a jumper, a jacket, a hat and gloves.
It's compulsory to wear sunglasses during the entire activity.
The activity will go ahead regardless of weather conditions.
The dirt road is not in the best conditions.
The route may cause altitude sickness, so we recommend that you take personal medication or pills against altitude sickness.
This activity is not suitable for people over 60 years of age, pregnant people, or people with reduced mobility, heart or respiratory problems or in poor physical condition. It's also not suitable for people who weigh more than 100 kilograms (220 lbs).
