Ruta del Sol from Cusco to Puno
Description
Embark on a journey through the historical landscapes of southern Peru via the renowned Ruta del Sol, connecting Cusco to Puno — an incredibly memorable experience in the heart of the Andes!
Description
Your adventure on the Ruta del Sol will commence promptly from Avenida 28 de Julio. After approximately one hour, the first stop will be Andahuaylillas, a picturesque Andean community where we will explore the San Pedro Apóstol church. Often referred to as "America's Sistine Chapel", the interior is adorned with remarkable pieces of sacred art that blend Renaissance and Baroque styles beautifully.
Continuing our journey, we will proceed towards the Raqchi archaeological site. Here, the remains of the ancient temple dedicated to the god Wiracocha are a testament to the region's spiritual heritage. This guided tour will unveil intriguing aspects of how this deity was revered, the remnants of its worship, and the fate of its followers following the Spanish conquest.
Next, we will pause for a well-deserved buffet lunch at a local restaurant, allowing us an hour to relax and refuel. Following our meal, we will ascend to Abra La Raya, an impressive mountain pass that stands at over 4,300 meters above sea level. Expect to be captivated by stunning vistas as we visit this remarkable spot, after which we will explore an engaging interpretation centre in Pukara.
The adventure along the Ruta del Sol will conclude back at our original meeting point in Puno, with an expected arrival time of 5:30 pm.
