Pucará Bulls Cusco Gilding Workshop (2 hours)
Your artisan journey in Cusco will commence with a concise overview of the regional art, emphasizing the blend of Andean and European cultural influences. Additionally, you will explore the historical context of ceramics in this region, including its roots and cultural importance. Are you curious about the Pucará bull, a symbol associated with safety and prosperity? You’ll learn the captivating stories behind it!
Participants will each receive a Pucará bull along with all necessary materials to begin creating. You will master the renowned technique of colonial gliding from Cusco, utilizing bronze, copper, and aluminum sheets.
At the conclusion of this workshop, you will have the opportunity to bring home your handcrafted Pucará bull. These bulls are often placed on rooftops for protection—an interesting fact to share!
Cusco Glazed Ceramics and Gilding Workshop (3 hours)
If you desire a more comprehensive experience, consider participating in the workshop dedicated to glazed ceramics and Cusco gilding!
We will start by meeting with the local artists from Totemiq, a collective focused on the preservation of traditional Peruvian folk art. They will provide insights into the glazed ceramics production process and the techniques of Cusco gilding, as well as other fascinating aspects of Cusco's artisan creations.
Once we've covered the theoretical aspects, we will engage in hands-on practice, employing the artisan methods to shape ceramic pieces, followed by glazing and painting techniques. To finish off, you will paint Pucará Bull figures using acrylic and other materials, allowing you to choose your favorite colors!
