Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave

On the designated day, we will depart from your accommodation in Placencia and travel towards the Tapir Mountain Nature Reserve.

Here, we will explore Belize's most intriguing and renowned Mayan cave, the Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave, popularly known as ATM. We will navigate through the underground corridors and unravel their mysteries.

Within the cave, you’ll witness the remains of several human skeletons, believed to have played a significant role in Mayan ceremonies. Experts suggest these remains may have been part of sacrificial offerings dedicated to the deity Chaac.

Our exploration will continue deep within the cave, where we will encounter the remains of a young sacrifice known as the Crystal Maiden. Over time, the bones of this adolescent have formed a crystalline structure, granting them an eerie glow that led to their infamous title. We will also ponder whether this figure harbors further mysteries...

Upon exiting the ATM Cave, a visit to a local restaurant awaits, where a delicious lunch awaits, showcasing the flavorful dishes of the Yucatan Peninsula, merging traditional Mayan flavors with Caribbean influences.

We will then conclude our adventure by returning to your hotel in Placencia, with an expected arrival time of 5:30 pm.
