Agreste Paraibano Cultural Tour
Description
Embark on a cultural adventure through the scenic Agreste Paraibano region, where we will delve into the colonial past and architectural marvels of Areia's countryside. Prepare to be captivated by the stunning landscapes!
Tour Details
At the agreed time, we will collect you from your hotel in João Pessoa and embark on a journey toward Areia, with an approximate travel time of 2.5 hours. Let's set off!
Upon arrival in Areia, designated as a historic city by the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage, our guided exploration will reveal narrow streets adorned with 18th and 19th-century architecture. Witness how these structures harmoniously blend with the unique landscape shaped by the semi-arid climate.
Our first stop will be the Pedro Américo House Museum, dedicated to one of Paraíba's most significant artists. Following this, we will visit the magnificent Casarão José Rufino de Almeida, the first estate constructed in Vila Real de Areia, uncovering the lives of its former inhabitants and their professions.
As we continue, a visit to Budega do Vavá awaits, where an array of flavored spirits and artisanal cachaças from Paraíba can be sampled, along with traditional confections like Rapadura. Will you resist the temptation to leave without a delightful souvenir? Next, we’ll make our way to the historic Minerva Theatre, the first of its kind in Paraíba, which played a pivotal role during the abolitionist movements of the 19th century.
Feeling peckish? A 1.5-hour lunch break at the rural restaurant Vó Maria will offer you a taste of authentic cuisine, featuring dishes cooked over wood-fired ovens and in clay pots. Refreshed, we will proceed to the Cachaça and Rapadura Museum, a former sugar mill from the 18th century, where we can explore its vintage machinery and clay alembics.
Next, you will observe the production of Cachaça Triunfo, sampling fresh cane sugar juice and delightful cachaça ice cream. This venue features a serene lake with boats, inviting you to unwind. You also have the option to purchase local artisan products here.
Our journey will culminate at the Casa da Farinha Pôr do Sol, where the heritage of regional goods is nurtured. Witness the breathtaking sunset over northeastern Brazil.
Finally, we will return to the bus for our trip back to João Pessoa, with drop-off at your hotel after a fulfilling 13-hour experience.
