Antigua Guatemala Cruise Day Trip
Description
This excursion to Antigua Guatemala offers an ideal opportunity to discover one of the most well-preserved colonial cities in Latin America for those arriving at Puerto Quetzal.
Details of the Day Trip
Upon docking at the cruise terminal of Puerto Quetzal, our team will be ready to embark on a journey to one of the country’s premier attractions: Antigua Guatemala, renowned for its colonial charm.
After a scenic 2-hour journey, we will begin a guided walking tour that delves into the historical essence of this city, showcasing the Spanish colonial architectural influences evident in the buildings, parks, and ruins, along with the vibrant local traditions. Prepare to be captivated by the lively streets! We’ll also stop at local artisan markets, offering a chance to purchase memorable keepsakes.
Our exploration will take us through the San Francisco area as we proceed towards La Merced Church, a significant landmark among Antigua’s places of worship. You will also encounter the Santa Catalina Arch, a 17th-century edifice. Interestingly, this arch once enabled nuns living in seclusion to transit between convents unobtrusively. Additionally, we will meander through Central Park, where we can appreciate the majestic Cathedral of San José, which underwent reconstruction in 1680 after enduring several earthquakes.
To conclude the tour, we’ll allocate some free time for lunch and shopping for souvenirs. After this period, we’ll regroup and head back to Puerto Quetzal, where the tour will officially end following a fulfilling 7 hours of exploration.
