Join us for a captivating exploration of Bologna's architectural marvels on this guided walking tour! We'll kick off our adventure at the indicated time, gathering at the heart of the city, Piazza Nettuno, where we will admire the Fountain of Neptune. From there, we will embark on a journey through the storied streets of Bologna, taking in its rich history and iconic landmarks.
Our first stop will be at the renowned Piazza Maggiore, hailed as one of Europe's most enchanting squares. Steeped in centuries of history, this bustling square was a focal point of cultural exchange during the Middle Ages. Did you know it once hosted public executions?
While at Piazza Maggiore, we will marvel at the grandeur of the Basilica of San Petronio, a significant historical site where the coronation of Charles V unfolded. Discover intriguing anecdotes about this monumental structure, including the mystery behind its unfinished state. Curious? Join us to uncover the secrets!
Venturing a few steps away, we will encounter the majestic Archiginnasio, once the seat of the esteemed University of Bologna, the oldest in the Western world. Today, it is preserved as a public library with more than 35,000 literary works.
Our journey will then continue at the Piazza Santo Stefano. Here, we will pass the charming churches of Santa Maria della Vita and Santo Stefano, leading us to the iconic Two Towers—Asinelli and Garisenda—symbolic of Bologna's medieval heritage.
Of course, we will visit the Mercato del Quadrilatero and its historic shops, giving you the chance to stock up on local flavors at this iconic market!
As our tour unfolds, we will admire the stately Palazzo Re Enzo, which overlooks Piazza Maggiore. Here, we will conclude our guided tour of Bologna after 2 hours.
