Brava Lagoon Trip
Description
Embark on a journey to explore the stunning landscapes of La Rioja with a visit to the Brava Lagoon. Experience a unique blend of crimson deserts, saline lagoons, and an impressive array of indigenous wildlife. It's an adventure that promises to captivate!
Options
Both options include a pickup and drop-off at your accommodation in La Rioja, transportation in a 4x4 vehicle, and an English-speaking guide. Below is a description of each choice:
8.5 Hour Tour
Our excursion will commence as we depart La Rioja towards the northernmost region of the province, where we will explore the Quebrada de la Troya. This magnificent gorge offers some of the tour's most breathtaking views and is notable for its dinosaur footprints imprinted in the rocks.
Upon reaching the end of the Quebrada de la Troya, we will arrive at Jagüé and proceed to Quebrada Santo Domingo. Here, we can observe several mountain refuges constructed between 1862 and 1874 following the movement of the Army of the Andes.
After delving into this intriguing history, we will head to the Brava Lagoon Provincial Reserve, an extraordinary saltwater lake located high in the Andes near the Chilean border. In addition to the picturesque scenery, we'll have the chance to spot various wildlife species such as vicuñas, guanacos, flamingos, and Andean gulls, enhancing our experience significantly.
We'll take in the stunning views from the Brava Lagoon Viewpoint before continuing to the Gulf of Flamingos to observe these elegant birds up close. With our cameras ready, we will also visit the remnants of an aircraft that made an emergency landing in the lagoon in 1964.
Our adventure will conclude as we return to the hotels, wrapping up the tour after 8.5 hours.
10 Hour Tour
For those wishing to enhance their experience, consider the 10-hour tour. In addition to the activities from the previous option, we will also explore the Brava Lagoon geysers. We'll pass by vibrant ochre mounds surrounded by salt, where the distinct scent of sulfur fills the air.
