Day Trip to Huechulafquen Lake & Lanín Volcano
Description
Embark on a journey to discover two remarkable natural attractions in the province of Neuquén: Huechulafquen Lake and Lanín Volcano.
Excursion to Huechulafquen Lake & Lanín Volcano
Our adventure begins at 9 am when we pick you up from your accommodation in central San Martin de los Andes. We will set off to explore the stunning landscapes of Huechulafquen Lake and Lanín Volcano, both located within the beautiful Lanín National Park.
The first highlight of our trip will be a visit to the mouth of the Chimehuín River, a popular angling destination known for its scenic beauty and as the origin of the impressive Huechulafquen Lake. This picturesque location, alongside Paimún and Epulafquen lakes, forms an essential network of lakes. Local legends speak of a hidden city said to lie beneath its waters.
Our journey continues as we head to the charming town of Junín de los Andes, where we will take time to appreciate the Nuestra Señora de las Nieves church and the nearby Mapuche cultural center. Following this cultural visit, we will venture into Lanin National Park on our way to Lake Huechulafquen, recognized as the largest lake in the vicinity.
Once we arrive at Lake Huechulafquen, you'll have some leisure time for lunch at your own pace. Afterward, we will enjoy breathtaking views of the majestic volcano looming over the lake as we soak in the tranquil environment.
Our excursion will also take us to Lake Paimún, a serene paradise embraced by snow-capped peaks. Its name translates to "run quietly" in the local dialect, perfectly reflecting its peaceful ambiance.
As we make our way back, we will stop by Mapuche communities, offering insight into their traditional way of life and unique architecture.
We anticipate returning to San Martin de los Andes around 6 pm, concluding our memorable day as we drop you off at your hotel.
