Filandia, Salento & Cocora Valley Excursion
Description
Discover the enchanting coffee-growing region of Colombia as you visit Filandia and Salento. Prepare your backpack for an invigorating trek through the Cocora Valley, a lush, green paradise. Experience three unique locations in a single day!
Description
We will begin our adventure by collecting you from your hotel and embarking on a scenic 50-minute drive from Pereira through the Colombian coffee landscape.
Our journey will first take us to the magnificent Cocora Valley. Are you familiar with the "secret of the thousand greens"? In this extraordinary natural setting, we will walk amid an abundance of vibrant greens and learn about the enchanting tale of the Princess Cocora.
To deepen your understanding of the Wax Palm, we will visit three distinct viewpoints to appreciate the landscape's captivating beauty and intriguing features.
Following our exploration, we will stop for lunch before continuing to Salento, a stunning town reflecting traditional Antioquian architecture. Here, its lively streets and colorful facades will captivate you as we meander through charming homes and flower-adorned balconies, eventually reaching Calle Real, the vibrant heart of the town.
During our stroll, we will encounter the Camino del Quindío, the historic route between Cartago and Ibagué. Are you familiar with the Camino del Quindío Festival? Locals from the nearby Filandia transform into historical figures—patriots and Spaniards—celebrating the significant moments along this route.
Where can you catch the most breathtaking views of Salento? At the Alto de la Cruz viewpoint, of course! Both locals and tourists come here to admire the stunning vistas of Colombia's coffee region.
Next, we’ll visit the quaint town of La Colina Iluminada, a picturesque spot to savor the horizons of Quindio. After this short break, we will proceed to Filandia, where an engaging 2-hour guided exploration of the town awaits us.
We will stroll through the streets of Filandia, appreciating the vibrant houses and local shops, eventually reaching the notable Street of Stopped Time, 'la calle del Tiempo Detenido'. Our visit will include the bustling Central Park, a vital gathering place for coffee farmers. From here, we can admire the stunning Templo María Inmaculada church, famous for its striking blue and white facade. Additionally, we will delve into the art of basket weaving and pay a visit to the Museo de los Abuelos (Grandparents' Museum).
After a fulfilling day, we will make our way back to Pereira, where we will ensure you return to your accommodation, concluding a memorable 9-hour journey.
