Grande-Sauve Abbey Tickets
Description
Gain access to the Grande-Sauve Abbey, where you will explore the remnants of a historic Benedictine monastery situated a mere 40 minutes from Bordeaux. This monumental site is embraced by verdant nature.
Why Explore the Grande-Sauve Abbey?
Positioned slightly over 30 km from Bordeaux, the ruins of the Grand-Sauve Abbey stand as one of the principal Romanesque architectural landmarks in the Gironde region.
Your visit to the Grande-Sauve Abbey will take you through the remains of this ancient monastery, constructed between the 11th and 13th centuries. The enduring structures still reveal the features of Romanesque style, notably in the capitals and various remnants.
The abbey’s name, Grande-Sauve, translates to "The Large Jungle." It’s easy to understand why! As you wander the expansive grounds of over 4.94 acres (2 hectares), you will discover the entire site enveloped by rich, lush sceneries.
Adjacent to the remnants of the Grande-Sauve Abbey, there are various informational panels. These provide insights into the abbey's past, which is part of the French Camino de Santiago monuments, recognized as World Heritage Sites.
