Bristol Guided Walking Tour
Description
Join us on a guided walking exploration of Bristol, a city rich in stories of piracy, trade, and vibrant street art.
Tour Overview
At the arranged hour, we will convene outside the Old Council House located on Corn Street to commence our guided walking exploration of Bristol. Prepare to delve into the city's landmarks and unveil its fascinating narratives, ranging from the adventures of legendary pirates to the creative expressions of local artists. Let’s embark on this journey!
Our first stop will be at The Exchange, which historically served as a trading hub for corn and various goods. Currently, this building accommodates offices and hosts the lively St Nicholas Market.
Next, we will meander through the streets towards City Hall, just a short 10-minute walk away, where we will admire its elegant Neo-Georgian architecture and the exquisite gilded unicorns that adorn it. Afterward, we will visit the majestic Bristol Cathedral, recognized as one of the most exceptional examples of a medieval hall church globally. Here, we’ll share insights into its remarkable history and architectural grandeur, including its organ that dates back to 1685.
Our journey will then take us approximately 10 minutes on foot to the Llandoger Trow, a historic tavern believed to have inspired the Admiral Benbow Inn from the novel Treasure Island. It is rumored that Daniel Defoe met the famed figures William Dampier and Alexandre Selkirk within these very walls, who influenced his story Robinson Crusoe. Additionally, we will explore the establishment's eerie past and its reputed hauntings!
Continuing our journey, we will reach Queen Square, a vibrant spot in the city center that frequently features outdoor performances, cinematic showings, music festivals, exhibitions, and even a yearly petanque championship. Following this, we will stroll for another 10 minutes to Pero's Bridge, a bascule bridge that connects Queen Square and Millennium Square. Crossing over, we will arrive at Anchor Square, nestled in the scenic Bristol Harbour, also known as the Floating Harbour, surrounded by an array of eateries and bars.
Our walk will lead us back to the Bristol Cathedral as we conclude this insightful guided tour after approximately 1.5 hours.
