Japanese Tea Ceremony in Miyajima

Our gathering point will be the Okeiko Japan Academy situated in Miyajima. This cultural venue, housed within a historic Zen temple, provides the perfect backdrop where you will delve into the intricacies of a traditional tea ceremony.

Referred to as sadou, this ritual focuses on the art of preparing and serving matcha. The process is composed of several stages, including utensil preparation, tea brewing, bowing, and tasting the tea. You will learn about the significant symbolism behind every action and the meticulous attention given to each detail.

Following a demonstration of the complete ceremony, it will be your turn to create your own tea. Take note of the steps you have practiced!

The session will conclude after 30 minutes.

Kimono Rental

An additional option available is to rent a traditional Japanese kimono. We will meet at the specified time, granting you 30 minutes to select your attire and prepare. The tea ceremony will then commence, lasting an hour.

Schedule

Depending on your choice, the ceremony will be conducted at the following times:

• Ceremony without kimono: at 10:30 am, 1:30 pm, and 3:30 pm.
• Ceremony with kimono: at 10 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm.
