Hike Overview

We will convene at Puerto Caño Hondo in Los Haitises National Park at your designated time for an unforgettable trek.

The hiking path spans approximately 2.5 miles (3.8 kilometers) leading us to Caño Salado, where we will appreciate the sight of coconut, coffee, and cocoa trees. As we venture deeper into the luscious northern Dominican Republic rainforest, be on the lookout for the small solenodon, an endangered mammal with origins linked to moles and shrews.

Throughout our journey, keep an eye out for parrots, pelicans, and kingbirds that will accompany us along the trail! Additionally, we will delve into intriguing details about the Taino people, the historical inhabitants of this area, whose name translates to 'mountainous land'.

Upon reaching the trail's end, we'll board a small boat to return to the starting location, taking in views of the red and white mangroves.

After an exhilarating four-hour exploration, we will finish our adventure by returning to the starting point.
