National Maritime Museum of Toulon Tickets
Description
Your visit to the National Maritime Museum in Toulon offers an insightful journey into France's rich maritime history, situated adjacent to the largest naval base in the country.
National Maritime Museum Overview
Positioned near France's principal naval harbor, the National Maritime Museum stands out as a key attraction in Toulon. Notably praised by Vauban, the esteemed architect of Louis XIV, this port has been referred to as the most stunning in Europe.
This ticket grants you the opportunity to freely explore the city's former arsenal, which features a stunning 18th-century gate. Upon entering, you will find a remarkable collection that has been accessible to visitors since 1814.
A standout piece in the permanent collection is the model of La Sultane, a frigate equipped with 28 guns and crafted in 1763 during Louis XV's rule. Additionally, be sure to view the model of a nuclear submarine, developed for the protection of the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier, currently stationed in Toulon.
Among the museum's exceptional exhibits, you will find a figurehead depicting Neptune and the historic bell from the Toulon arsenal, which was cast in bronze in 1672 during the reign of Louis XIV.
Anticipate a visit lasting approximately 1.5 hours, although you have the flexibility to extend your stay in the museum as desired.
