Nighttime Turtle Watching
Description
Embark on a nighttime sea turtle observation adventure where we'll witness these majestic creatures making their way along Tortuguero Beach to find ideal spots for egg laying.
Sea Turtle Observation Overview
Prepare yourself for an extraordinary natural experience. Upon gathering at the designated area on Tortuguero's central pier, our journey will commence along a pathway that leads us to the beach where these incredible turtles roam during the night.
Prior to reaching the turtle nesting site, an informational session will be held to educate us on how to observe the turtles without causing them any stress as they traverse the sandy beach. We'll proceed carefully to the shore under the guidance of our expert, where we will observe these large sea turtles searching for a secure location to deposit their eggs.
When the time is appropriate, we will gather in smaller groups to witness the nesting activity. Equipped only with infrared lights provided by our guide, we will marvel at the remarkable sight of tiny eggs being laid by the colossal sea turtle. The species commonly found along the Tortuguero coast include the hawksbill sea turtle, olive ridley sea turtle, and green sea turtle, varying by season. It is fascinating to note that although incubation lasts about two months, only a few hatchlings make it to maturity.
After experiencing this cycle of marine life and gaining insights into the egg-laying process, our adventure will conclude back at the meeting point after two hours together.
