Explore Peli?or Castle
Nestled within the royal grounds of Sinaia amidst the stunning Carpathian Mountains, Peli?or Castle was conceived as a summer retreat for the royal couple, Ferdinand and Maria, who later became Romania's king and queen. With your entry tickets, you'll uncover its captivating past, which spans from 1899 to 1902 when King Carol I commissioned its construction.
This castle offers a more intimate atmosphere compared to its grand neighbor, Pele? Castle, while harmoniously blending into its natural surroundings. The principal architect, Czech Karel Liman, crafted a design infused with half-timbered elements, enhanced by local features such as distinctive towers adorned with colored sandstone tiles, reminiscent of the bell towers found in Bukovina.
Your journey through Peli?or Castle will highlight the artistic touch of Queen Maria, affectionately referred to as the "artist queen." The structure and interior design exhibit the Art 1900 style, echoing the principles of Art Nouveau, alongside Neo-Romanian and Brâncovenesc details.
The residence showcases meticulously arranged salons, private rooms, and a variety of spaces that were adorned in phases between 1902-1903 and 1925-1928, reflecting the monarch's evolving taste and artistic vision. A standout feature of the castle is the Golden Bedroom, which exemplifies this unique aesthetic pursuit.
