Beginning with a hotel pickup in Arica between 8 am and 9 am, we will journey southward to Pisagua. This quaint coastal settlement situated in the Tarapacá region played a crucial role in the War of the Pacific, a contention involving Chile, Peru, and Bolivia in the latter half of the 1800s.

Among the significant events of this war was the Battle of Dolores, which is also referred to as The Battle of San Francisco, a key encounter in the renowned Tarapacá campaign. We will delve into the narratives surrounding this battle and pay a visit to the Pisagua cemetery, where wooden crosses stand facing the Pacific Ocean.

Our next destination will be the monument commemorating the landing and battle of Pisagua. After uncovering the details of this pivotal 1879 event, we'll explore the historical context of Pisagua and observe the various large wooden structures that remain as testimonies of that era.

During our journey, we’ll pause at a local eatery to enjoy lunch, featuring an array of traditional dishes. Once we finish our meal, we will learn about the evolution of Pisagua as a detention facility in the 20th century, which today stands as a beacon for Human Rights advocacy.
