San Gimignano Private Tour
Description
Are you ready to immerse yourself in the enchanting scenery of Tuscany? This private excursion in San Gimignano provides an opportunity to delve into the rich history and notable landmarks of this medieval village recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Private Tour of San Gimignano
At a time that suits you best, your guide will be waiting for you at Porta San Giovanni, a significant entry point within the fortifications of San Gimignano. Here, we'll take a moment to appreciate this remarkable 13th-century structure before embarking on a private journey through the historic district of this delightful Tuscan town.
Our first stop will be at the Piazza della Cisterna, the vibrant center of San Gimignano and its primary commercial hub since ancient times. From this vantage point, we'll observe the striking tower-houses, which represent the dominance of the town's wealthiest families throughout history. Your guide will share captivating tales about the illustrious families that once inhabited this area.
As we progress, the tour will showcase the exterior of the Palazzo Comunale, intimately linked to the renowned Florentine poet Dante Alighieri. We'll then examine fascinating details while admiring the facade of the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Assunta, accompanied by the notable Torre Grossa, the tallest tower in the village.
Continuing, we’ll wander through the charming narrow cobblestone streets, encountering the Church of Sant'Agostino and various local artisan shops along the way, eventually arriving at the Rocca Montestaffoli, a historic 14th-century fortress located on a hilltop. Here, you will explore the Vernaccia wine museum, unveiling the secrets behind this prestigious San Gimignano Appellation of Origin.
After approximately 2 hours of exploration, the private tour will conclude with a return to our original meeting point.
