The journey begins with a visit to the Arles Amphitheatre, recognized as one of the finest Roman amphitheatres globally. Here, we’ll discuss the thrilling gladiatorial contests that took place within this remarkable 1st century structure.
Following that, we’ll proceed to examine the framework of the ancient theatre, which offers a glimpse into the artistic and cultural achievements of the Roman Empire. We will then stop by the Church of St Trophime, a site recognized as a World Heritage Site. Here, we will admire the intricate Romanesque details adorning the façade of this 12th century structure.
Additionally, we will take the opportunity to discuss the renowned Vincent Van Gogh, who spent over a year in Arles and created around 200 masterpieces during his time there. We’ll visit some of the iconic places he immortalized in his works, including the famous Café de la Nuit.
