Ancient Rome
This itinerary delves into the historical remnants of the city, founded by Romulus and Remus, showcasing its most iconic monuments. We will begin by driving around the Colosseum, the emblematic representation of Rome, before visiting the Basilica of San Pietro in Vincoli, where the famed chains of the apostle and Michelangelo's Moses await.
Next, we will explore the Imperial Forums, where history springs to life amid temples, triumphal arches, and ancient basilicas. Our journey continues toward the Theatre of Marcellus, a stunning architectural landmark from Augustus's era, followed by a visit to Piazza Venezia to admire the impressive Monument to Victor Emmanuel II, a hallmark of a unified Italy.
We will conclude this leg of the tour at the serene Piazza del Campidoglio, offering one of the finest panoramic views of the city.
Baroque Rome
This route emphasizes the opulence of Baroque design through its magnificent structures. We will commence at Piazza di Spagna, featuring the beautiful Spanish Steps that lead up to Trinità dei Monti, and then progress to the stunning Trevi Fountain, a timeless symbol of Rome and an architectural marvel.
As we reach Piazza della Pietra, we will admire the columns of the Temple of Hadrian, harmoniously interwoven with its 18th-century surroundings, before proceeding to Palazzo Madama, currently the seat of the Italian Senate.
Our next stop will be the Pantheon, a formidable work that has inspired countless Baroque geniuses. Finally, we'll find ourselves in Piazza Navona, reminiscent of an open-air theater with Bernini’s Fountain of the Four Rivers and Borromini’s Church of Sant’Agnese in Agone in a captivating interplay.
Artistic Rome
Rome has long been a haven for artists who have left their indelible mark on its streets and monuments. We’ll start our exploration at the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere, one of the city’s oldest places of worship, celebrated for its exquisite 12th-century mosaics. Did you know that one of the first Christian masses in Rome took place here?
Then, we will walk through the Trastevere neighborhood, where the aroma of coffee mingles with warm bread and the sounds of artisans working in their quaint workshops surround us.
Next, we ascend to the Gianicolo (Janiculum Hill) to enjoy one of the city’s most breathtaking vistas. Following this, we will descend into the historic Jewish Quarter, where the echoes of history resonate within the Portico of Octavia and the Great Synagogue of Rome, symbols of resilience and harmony. Additionally, we will pass by Tiber Island, a tranquil oasis nestled in the river.
Ancient Appian Way
In this excursion, we will traverse the most significant thoroughfare of Ancient Rome, the Appian Way. Known as the Regina Viarum or “Queen of Roads,” it was the first major Roman highway, linking the capital with the south and enabling the movement of troops and merchants.
Along our route, we’ll admire the grand Baths of Caracalla and the hauntingly beautiful Church of Domine Quo Vadis, where, according to legend, Christ made an appearance to the Apostle Peter. We’ll then descend into the depths to explore the enigmatic Catacombs (your choice of which to visit) and continue through the remnants of the Villa and Circus of Maxentius, concluding at the Tomb of Cecilia Metella, dedicated to a noble Roman woman from the 1st century BC.
