Ruins of Quilmes Day Trip + Tucumán Wineries Visit
Description
On this day trip, you'll experience the ancient remains of an ancestral culture at the ruins of Quilmes and explore the wineries of the Tucumán Wine Route.
Day Trip Details
The day begins with your pick-up from your hotel in Tafí del Valle. Once everyone is onboard, we will embark on a scenic journey along winding roads towards the north, merging the rich history of the region with its exquisite wines.
After approximately 30 minutes, we'll make a stop at El Infiernillo, where we'll take a moment to admire the beauty of the valley from the viewpoint. The gentle curves of the landscape and the peaks silhouetted against the sky offer a perfect introduction to the natural allure of the region.
Returning to the vehicle, we’ll continue our trip along routes 307 and 357 until we arrive at the ruins of Quilmes, a heritage treasure of the original inhabitants who resisted conquest for nearly two centuries.
Guided by members of the indigenous community, you’ll learn about their ancestors’ rich history with a passion that brings the past to life. We will also visit the Quilmes Museum on a 2-hour tour of this archaeological site, exploring dwellings, fortifications, and terraces surrounded by cacti and ancient stones that still echo stories of resilience and wisdom.
After this enriching experience, we will proceed to the Río de Arena ranch to indulge in the aromas and flavors of the Tucumán Wine Route. At the Río de Arena Estancia winery, you will see its Torrontés, Malbec, and Reserva Malbec vineyards along the Santa María River. Nestled in the hills, you can enjoy the region's traditional cuisine for lunch.
Next, we will visit the Las Arcas del Tolombón winery, renowned for its bioclimatic architecture, influenced by Andean and African designs. Here, we will discover how this facility harmonizes art, sustainability, and innovation in winemaking at an altitude exceeding 1,700 m (5,577 ft).
After a 1-hour visit, we will travel to Amaicha del Valle to explore the Los Amaichas community winery, recognized as the first indigenous winery in Latin America. During a 45-minute tour, you will learn how wine embodies identity and cultural roots. The Malbec and Criollo grapes are crafted into Sumak Kawsay wine, reflecting an ancestral philosophy.
Finally, we will return to Tafí del Valle, concluding this enriching 9-hour trip back at your hotel.
