Embark on a journey to one of the most stunning lagoons globally with our excursion to the Quilotoa Lagoon. Departing from Riobamba, you will have the opportunity to marvel at the lagoon's remarkable, vibrant waters.

Excursion to Quilotoa Lagoon

Your adventure begins at 8 am, with a pickup from your accommodation in Riobamba, as we make our way towards Quilotoa Lagoon.

During the route, we will pause in the town of Zumbahua, situated in the heart of the Ecuadorian Andes. Here, we will encounter the Toachi River canyon, formed by the ancient flows of the Quilotoa Volcano. Additionally, we will visit Tigua, famous for its handcrafted masks created by the local Indigenous artisans.

Continuing our journey, we will arrive at the Quilotoa Lagoon. This breathtaking lake has a diameter of 8 miles (13 kilometers) and lies within a volcanic crater. Interestingly, it was created approximately 800 years ago following the collapse of the volcanic cone.

We will make our way to the caldera's rim and embark on a 1-hour kayaking adventure across the lagoon's stunningly colored waters. While paddling, keep an eye out for local wildlife, including deer and rabbits, that inhabit the Andean vegetation!

Our next stop will be the village of Quilotoa, where you can enjoy a traditional meal featuring corn and beans. After lunch, you will have 1 hour of leisure time to explore the local arts and crafts.

Finally, we will return you to Riobamba, with an expected drop-off at your hotel by 7 pm.
