Activity Details

At the scheduled time, you will be picked up from your accommodation in Palomino and transported by bus to the lush jungles of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. This coastal mountain range boasts some of the highest peaks found in the Colombian Caribbean, showcasing a diverse array of flora and fauna that promise stunning vistas!

Upon arrival, we will take a scenic walk among the crops and fruit trees, providing insights into the agricultural practices of local farmers. After approximately thirty minutes, we will arrive at the indigenous village of Tengueka, where a customary offering will be made, and gifts will be distributed to the village children, embracing the cultural significance of this moment!

Throughout the journey, we will discuss the deep-rooted traditions of the indigenous communities in the Sierra Nevada. You'll gain an understanding of the daily lives of the Arhuacos, Kogis, and other nearby tribes. Additionally, you'll be introduced to traditional tools utilized by the locals, such as the poporo and the gamancalas.

The typical flora features prominent trees like the ceiba, higuerón, mastre, and caracolí, each possessing unique properties that locals utilize in their daily routines, which we will explore during our journey. We will also embark on a leisurely walk along the riverbank, where you can cool off with a refreshing dip in its waters.

Following this, we will return to the community to indulge in a delightful traditional lunch made with fresh fish and local vegetables.

After an engaging 8 hours filled with exploration, we will conclude the day and head back to your hotel in Palomino.
