Tiburón Island & Seri Community Day Trip
Description
Experience an extraordinary day with this excursion to Tiburón Island, the largest island in the nation. Revel in the stunning landscapes and get acquainted with one of the area's most ancient indigenous communities: the Seri people.
Details of the Excursion
At the agreed time, transportation will be arranged from your accommodation in Hermosillo to kick off our adventure. Are you prepared to explore the sacred territory of the Seri people? Let’s begin!
After a scenic 2-hour drive, we will pause at the Saguaro Forest, where the grandeur of the towering cacti, soaring over 65 feet (20 meters), will captivate you. This landscape, rich with deserts and ancient flora, is an ideal starting point for connecting with the majestic environment of Sonora.
Subsequently, we will continue our journey back to the vehicle and, following a 40-minute drive, arrive at Punta Chueca, the gateway to Tiburón Island. Did you know that this is the largest island in Mexico and the Gulf of California? From Punta Chueca, we’ll embark on a panga, a traditional boat resembling a canoe, which will transport us to the island in under 30 minutes. During this boat ride, you will be delighted by the crystal-clear waters of the Sea of Cortés.
Upon arrival, we will be welcomed by the Seri Tribe, also known as the Comcaac Tribe, who will greet us with a traditional hymn. Get ready for an unparalleled experience! While on Tiburón Island, we will navigate through the swamps, a rich ecosystem populated by birds, fish, and various plants. You will also have the opportunity to relax on its peaceful beaches.
Following 3 hours of exploration on the island, we will head back to Punta Chueca and then travel to Bahía de Kino, where you can indulge in a delicious lunch and enjoy additional beach time. More adventures await!
In the afternoon, we will stop by the Comcaac Museum for a 30-minute visit. Here, you’ll gain insights into the vibrant culture of this indigenous community, learning about their traditions, history, and handicrafts. Our final visit will be to the Pier of Bahía de Kino, an ideal location to soak in the picturesque views and capture stunning photographs.
As our day concludes, we will retrace our steps back to Hermosillo, where you will be returned to your hotel after this enriching 11-hour experience.
