Excursion to Cascais, Cabo da Roca & Boca do Inferno
Since the late 19th century, Cascais has been a favored destination for artists, nobility, and travelers. This scenic locale enchants visitors with its beautiful palaces, pristine beaches, and picturesque views. Our journey begins at the Cascais train station at 10 am, where we will board a comfortable minibus, setting off for our first destination: the Santuario da Peninha.
This site features a quaint 18th-century chapel alongside a 20th-century palace, perched on a hill that provides breathtaking panoramas of the coastline and the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park.
Once we've explored this remarkable site, we will continue our adventure towards the well-known Cabo da Roca, where steep cliffs rise approximately 459 feet (140 meters) above the Atlantic. Known as the westernmost point of mainland Europe, this location was once deemed the end of the world. You'll have the opportunity to capture memorable photographs by the lighthouse, which is the third oldest in Portugal, before we make our way back to Cascais, stopping at the Cresmina Dune for refreshments and a picturesque view.
Back on the minibus, enjoy the scenic drive as we pass the Praia do Guincho beach, a hotspot among surfers. Our next stop will be Boca do Inferno, located just five minutes from Cascais center. The name, meaning 'mouth of hell', reflects the local belief that the sounds emanating from this coastal cave signal the presence of the underworld.
Following this legendary encounter, we will return to the minibus and proceed to the historical center of Cascais. Here, we'll stroll through the charming streets and admire the architecture that defines this beloved coastal town near Lisbon for approximately one hour.
After exploring some of the most awe-inspiring sights in this region of Portugal, our tour will conclude back at the train station around 3 pm.
