Description

Meseta de Bombón Tour
Your journey begins at 9 am with a pickup from your hotel to set off for the Meseta de Bombón, a high-altitude plain nestled east of the Andes in central Peru. This region encompasses charming colonial villages and protected areas such as the Junín National Reserve, sprawling over an impressive 53,000 hectares. Our first stop will be in the colonial settlement of Vicco, where we'll take a moment to admire the historical 17th-century church before continuing to the reserve.
Upon arrival at the reserve, we will visit Lake Junín, renowned for its diverse ecosystems. It boasts an impressive array of wildlife, including up to 36 bird species. While exploring the lake's shores and surrounding islets, you might spot flamingos, Puna ibises, Andean geese, and even grebes, which are endangered and unique to this area. Additionally, we will stop by San Pedro de Pari, perched along the lake, to explore its beautiful colonial and Andean church, recognized as one of the oldest in South America.
As we journey onward, we will pass through San Juan de Ondores and make our way to the town of Junín. Here, we'll visit the Museum of Natural History and take time to wander through the city, appreciating its main square, the church of San Ignacio de Loyola, as well as the local train station and several chapels. You will also have free time to enjoy lunch at your leisure.
After your break, we'll proceed to the historical sanctuary of Chacamarca, a site of significant historical events in Peru. Are you ready to uncover the story behind it?
Next, we will continue our adventure to the village of Huayre, recognized as the capital of maca. This picturesque village cultivates this renowned tuber from Junín, reputed for its aphrodisiac properties. After exploring the main square, we will make our way back to Cerro de Pasco. En route, we will stop to visit the church of San Pedro de Ninacaca, notable for its stone and thatched construction, which remarkably retains its original roofing.
In conclusion, our return to Cerro de Pasco will have us arriving at your accommodation by 7 pm.
