At the indicated time, we'll meet in the museum lobby to begin this guided tour of the Tretyakov Gallery. The gallery, named after the collector Pavel Tretyakov, opened to the public in 1856 with over 2,000 pieces of Russian art.

Among the museum's key paintings is The Morning of the Streltsy Execution by Vasily Surikov. This work captures a significant episode of Tsarist Russia. We will learn about this painting and others, including Vereshchagin's The Apotheosis of War, which addresses the themes of war.
