Walking Tour of Guanajuato
Your adventure begins at 10:30 am as we gather at the steps of the Collegiate Basilica of Nuestra Señora de Guanajuato, an exquisite example of neoclassical and Baroque architecture. From this point, we will embark on an engaging guided walking tour of this remarkable World Heritage City.
Our first stop will be the stunning Juárez Theater, distinguished by its nine bronze sculptures inspired by Greek art. We will also view the façade of the Church of San Diego, which conceals a 17th-century Franciscan convent beneath its floor.
Continuing, we will pass the Monumento a la Paz, a tribute to peace designed by the Mexican artist Jesús Contreras, symbolizing the end of the War of Independence. Nearby, the impressive main structure of the University of Guanajuato and the historical Government Palace await our discovery.
As we stroll through the city, we will visit the famous Callejón del Beso (Alley of the Kiss), where we’ll uncover the tale of a forbidden romance between Don Carlos and Carmen. Find out how their story unfolds during our tour! Following this, we will make our way to Plaza San Roque and the significant Alhóndiga de Granaditas, a site rich in history.
Our journey also includes fascinating insights about the area as we pass by the Museo Iconográfico del Quijote, the Museo del Pueblo, and the Museo Casa Diego Rivera, the birthplace of the renowned Mexican artist.
The tour will conclude at 1:30 pm at the final point of interest.
