Experience at a Tenerife Winery & Vineyard

Upon collecting you from your selected meeting spot in the southern region of Tenerife, we will proceed to a local finca, where you'll delve into the cultivation of the Canary Islands' most renowned crop: the banana.

As we traverse the farm, you will uncover the historical significance of banana agriculture, which has been preserved through generations, along with its various uses such as gofio and sugar cane honey. Following our exploration of the banana fields, you're invited to savor a tasting of these creations, sure to leave your taste buds wanting more!

Your adventure continues in the town of Vilaflor, where we will stop at the Lagar de Chasna winery. Here, you'll discover the intricate process behind the island’s winemaking and enjoy a sampling of five Canarian wines, sharpening your palate to recognize the subtle distinctions that characterize these exquisite beverages.

To enhance the tasting experience, indulge in a delightful assortment of traditional Canarian dishes: enjoy papas arrugadas served with vibrant green and red mojo sauce, almogrote spread on toast, chorizo toast, goat's cheese, and cap it off with a delightful dessert.

Once the meal is completed, we will make our way back to the original meeting point, concluding this enriching 4 to 5-hour journey.

The Wine History of the Canary Islands

In the 14th century, European vines were introduced to the Canary Islands, a development facilitated by missionaries before the onset of Spanish rule. By the mid-1500s, the winemaking sector had expanded significantly, with British traders aiding in the export of the esteemed sweet Malvasia wine to Europe and the Americas. Despite facing numerous challenges, including conflicts and volcanic activity, the Canary Islands maintained their thriving wine trade for over 300 years.

A significant chapter emerged in the 1860s when the phylloxera pest devastated vineyards across Europe. In a fortunate turn, the Canary Islands remained unaffected, preserving some of the world’s oldest grapevine varieties.

Today, particularly in Tenerife, the Islands are recognized for producing remarkable wines. The unique volcanic soil, paired with a variety of microclimates and the absence of grafting, contributes to a distinctive quality in their wines, ranging from vibrant whites to bold reds. The diverse landscapes of Tenerife, including coastal areas and steep mountain slopes that host some of Europe's highest vineyards, continue to enrich the island's winemaking tradition.

Harvest Season

The Canary Islands boast one of the longest harvest seasons globally, stretching from July to November. During this period, the visit to a winery will be substituted with an exploration of an aloe vera and fruit farm.
