La Angostura Canyon Trekking
Description
Embark on an adventure through the captivating La Angostura Canyon, situated in the beautiful Chubut River valley. This excursion offers a fantastic opportunity for those seeking a more thrilling experience, as you navigate amongst stunning 40-million-year-old red rock formations.
La Angostura Canyon
On the scheduled day, the journey begins at the Cañadón La Angostura entrance, located in the serene area between Gaiman and Dolavon. Following a brief orientation, we will commence our hike through this extraordinary landscape in the Chubut River valley.
Prior to heading out, we will engage in a warm-up session consisting of mobility exercises. Once we feel prepared, our hike will cover approximately 2 km (1.24 mi) through fascinating sedimentary rock formations. As we traverse hills and ridges that were once linked to ancient springs, you will experience the varied terrain, which includes slopes, uneven ground, and narrow paths.
The trek's focal point is the stunning Cañadón La Angostura, a natural gorge measuring 216 m (709 ft) in length, with walls soaring up to 15 m (49.2 ft) high. Walking through this rocky corridor, we’ll examine its unique textures, layers, and intriguing formations.
At certain points, the canyon becomes quite narrow, requiring careful navigation where you may need to use your hands to climb over small, rough patches. While no technical climbing is involved, there are three segments of moderate difficulty. Fear not, as assistance in the form of a ladder will be provided at the most challenging section. This is adventure at its finest!
After approximately 1.5 hours of hiking, we will conclude our experience at the original meeting spot.
