Dresden Free Walking Tour
Description
Explore the historical gem of European Baroque with a complimentary walking tour of Dresden, where you will traverse the heart of a city profoundly affected by the Second World War.
Complimentary Walking Tour in Dresden
King John I of Saxony greets visitors from his pedestal at Theaterplatz, a pivotal square within the Saxon capital. Our complimentary tour will commence at this meeting point, right beneath the statue and adjacent to the renowned Semperoper opera house.
During our stop here, we will delve into the history of the Wettin dynasty, the cultural and artistic backbone of this German locale. You'll have the opportunity to admire the opera house's exquisite facade, which has been meticulously reconstructed following the destruction suffered during World War II.
Continuing on, we will visit the illustrious Zwinger Palace, celebrated as a remarkable Baroque gem. Nestled among stunning fountains, this venue once hosted grand royal festivities, built on the remnants of a former fortress. Next, we will stop by Dresden Palace, where the treasures of the Saxon monarchy are displayed.
The journey proceeds through the historic district to the Holy Trinity Cathedral, known as Hofkirche, the largest church structure in Saxony. We will stroll along an intriguing street featuring the Fürstenzug. Are you aware that this is the longest tiled mural globally?
Concluding our tour, we will gather in front of the iconic Church of Our Lady, Frauenkirche, a striking representation of the city’s rebirth following the devastation of the Great War.
