Dresden Private Tour
Description
The Zwinger Palace, the Sempoper building, and the cathedral set the scene for this exclusive walking tour of Dresden, where a knowledgeable English-speaking guide will accompany you through the historic heart of the city.
Tour Overview
At your designated time, we will gather near the statue of King John I of Saxony, located at Dresden’s Theaterplatz. Here, your private walking tour of Dresden will commence, allowing you to uncover the prominent attractions of this Saxon city.
As we navigate the vibrant city center, we'll immerse ourselves in the rich history of Dresden while admiring standout sites like the Zwinger Palace, renowned for its exquisite Baroque architecture, which was constructed atop a former fortress. The intricacy of its façade is sure to captivate you!
Next, our exploration will take us to the Semperoper, an opera house designed by the illustrious German architect Gottfried Semper. It holds the distinction of being the venue for the world premieres of three operas by Wagner.
We will then move to the Dresden Palace, celebrated for its diverse architectural styles. The origins of this royal residence trace back to a 12th-century Romanesque tower, which still stands today.
The adventure continues at the Hofkirche, known as the Holy Trinity Cathedral and recognized as the largest religious structure in Saxony. Its grand scale, the intricate sandstone carvings, and its towering height of 86 m (282 ft) are truly astonishing. Nearby, you'll also encounter the Procession of the Princes, a stunning mural adorned with 24,000 tiles of Meissen porcelain.
To finish our tour, we will visit the Frauenkirche, or Church of Our Lady, which stands as a significant emblem of Lutheranism. We'll delve into its storied past, exploring its various historical phases.
Your two and a half hour experience in Dresden will wrap up near the basilica, where your journey through the city’s history and beauty concludes.
